What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a safe, non-invasive therapy used to promote natural healing and reduce pain. An ancient form of Chinese medicine that has provided effective relief for centuries.

Treatment involves inserting a series of specially designed needles into the skin at specific points in the body. These needles are very fine, flexible and slide smoothly through tissue so they do not cause bleeding or tissue damage. There is no drug injected through the needles; the presence of the needles themselves provides the stimulation that achieves the beneficial effects of treatment. Needles are typically left in place for 15 to 30 minutes. Each needle is sterile and individually packed to ensure that patient safety is among our top priority.

Most people seeking this form of therapy typically suffer from musculoskeletal issues including low back pain, shoulder pain and knee pain. It is commonly used in conjunction with other forms of therapy including massage, chiropractic care and physiotherapy

What Does it Treat?

Acupuncture has been known to provide effective, natural treatment for many conditions, including headaches, back and neck pain, digestive difficulties, anxiety and stress.

During a treatment session, your initial evaluation will consist of a complete health history and physical exam. Your chiropractor will go through the benefits of care prior to consenting to care. During a treatment session, between 5 and 20 needles are used. A mild aching sensation may be experienced once the needle reaches appropriate depth. Your practitioner may gently move the needles or stimulate them during a treatment, which can last 10-20 minutes. After removal of the needles, some patients may feel relaxed or energized.
